TRUTH is our guiding light, and as God’s Word, in both the Incarnate and written form, is Truth, the LORD Jesus and the Bible are our foundations. We use philosophy, psychology, the hard sciences, theology, history, literature and the humanities focused through the lens of God’s word in pursuit of meaning and understanding. Christ is the Way, but we will not shy away from the hard questions of faith; here, like Jacob, we wrestle with God. We embrace beauty, wisdom, enchantment and FUN. God’s Wisdom reflects through the WORDS of our past: philosophers, poets, saints, scientists and heroes, Einstein’s relativity, the Quantum revolution, American patriots and Greek orators speak to our present. We love the written word, the truth and beauty revealed in it, and the search for meaning. Atheists and Christians, agnostics and postmoderns ... ALL are welcome here, and ALL will be challenged! ”For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts,” says the LORD.

Jenny and I continue to discuss a phenomenon we've observed on the contemporary scene in which committed members of the political left find an issue that has "crossed the line" for them, and rebel from the proposed orthodoxy, usually seeing only this issue as problematic, or as having a particular origin in recent times that is wrong and must be addressed, but missing the larger sense in which these problems are the natural logical outplay of the logic of the left, the ideology of Hegelianism/Marxism/Critical Theory/Wokism.
"here's a question: does big picture, abstract thinking cause liberals to be less happy because they are removing themselves from the embodied here and now? After all, the ability to live in the moment and appreciate our lives as they exist does seem to be a key ingredient in day-to-day contentment. Or is it conservatives' concern with lasting marriage, strong family cohesiveness, and day-to-day sociality that tips the scales toward greater daily contentment and happiness?" John's interview with Michael Wiseman of THE BIBLE SAYS WHAT?!? podcast.
Michael represents an atheist worldview that has not yet thought deeply enough about the issues to find the dependence of human reason on divine reason, and who rejects, as I did, the notion that atheism represents a faith position. I truly enjoyed chatting with him. He was warm and human, and my interactions with him both before and after the podcast were not just respectful but genuinely friendly. He has been hurt, I think, by churchianity and well-meaning Christians. God understands that, and the path from atheism back to Christ is, I think, a shorter and more direct one than that from a self-satisfied agnosticism. Michael seemed genuinely curious, and not just contemptuous as he often comes across. I liked him immediately, and found nothing in my interactions with him to contradict my initial impressions. Cheers, Michael! Keep asking, seeking and knocking!

Jenny and I are taking the week off to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The success of our No Compromise conversations, in which I always say, "Qu'ils sont beaux, lex pieds" to introduce my Jenny, is here explained. Jenny was God's gift of grace to me, my path back to His arms. On Valentine's Day 2022, we posted my original poem to Jenny on our Simple Gifts podcast. We repost that episode here on the Christian Atheist.
Qu'ils sont beaux les pieds, "How Beautiful are the Feet" (Isaiah 52:7; Romans 10:15) is my love song to my Jenny this Valentine's Day! My love has only grown exponentially since we married. My one earthly goal is to spend every available second with her!
Yeats' poem "He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" was my foundational poetic influence in writing this piece, but there were many, many more, some of which I trace out in this episode.

Qu’ils Sont Beaux Les Pieds
I have spread my dreams under your feet
For they speak to me of Golden Mean
Of swirls and curly fractal stream
Scent, sight, tactile complete
Complement-whorl in all ways meet

This, our concluding episode to this series, will constitute two-weeks' worth of episodes. I did not have the heart to divide this episode into two, as it was written as an organic unit. Sorry for the length, but I could not wrap up the points more succinctly.
What is faith? From where does it originate? What does it mean to have evidence for what you believe? Is faith the foundation for knowledge, or knowledge the foundation for faith? Most atheists and theists have never thought systematically about these questions, but they are foundational for any rational conclusions we may draw about God's existence or non-existence.
We began our discussion by attempting to unravel the difficult issue of the evident, then we turned our attention to human rational freedom, the ideal and metaphysics. We conclude this week by discussing what I might term "fundamental faith," the often unspoken metaphysics that underlies what we believe and colors every aspect of our life and rational consideration. The scripture that grounds our discussion is the oft-repeated phrase in the Creation story of Genesis, "and God saw that it was good."

What is faith? From where does it originate? What does it mean to have evidence for what you believe? Is faith the foundation for knowledge, or knowledge the foundation for faith? Most atheists and theists have never thought systematically about these questions, but they are foundational for any rational conclusions we may draw about God's existence or non-existence. We begin our discussion by attempting to unravel the difficult issue of the evident, then we turn our attention to human rational freedom, the ideal and metaphysics. Join us as we try to make sense of where we all stand before the Looking glass.

This week we continue our analysis of doublethink. As Jenny and I walk our neighborhood each week, we see sign after sign proclaiming "Science is Real." This is meant as a provocation, as a supercilious critique, but properly understood it is DOUBLETHINK, as Wokism requires the denial of science while at the same time criticizing its opponents as "science deniers." This fundamental ability to hold and assert contradictory conceptions AS MEANS TO AN END is really nothing more than the will to lie, to deny what we know to be true, and to deny it so vehemently that we believe we are not denying it. It is the rational capacity to choose irrationality in order to achieve a desired end.
These episodes are introducing an episode (or series of episodes) of the Christian Atheist entitled, "The Evident, Evidence, and Faith," debuting next week. It is useful to illustrate the vision opposing the structures of Western liberal society that I am trying to explicate. This self-loathing opposition to the West is what I have been attempting to explain here at the Christian Atheist for our entire existence, which I have been trying to understand all my life. It is no mistake that the Hegelians, Marxists, neo-Marxists, Critical theorists, Postmoderns and Wokists hate this Western reality BECAUSE IT STANDS IN THE WAY OF THEIR ENDS.
George Orwell's dystopian novel, 1984, is, I think, the best example in literature of the logical outplaying of the post-Hegelian logic in practical politics. On March 24th, 2022, the Associates for Biblical Research announced the discovery of an ancient curse tablet (defixio) on Mount Ebal at the site of "Joshua's altar."
This is a potentially WORLD-SHAKING discovery, but the dust has not yet settled, and the academic war is only just beginning.
We must clearly understand what is at stake, and think seriously of what our faith depends on. We should also understand the value of such evidence in arguing our case for God, for Christ.

We continue our series of "Responses to the Critic" this week with a conversation on the nature of faith. I argue that faith is the foundation upon which ALL of rational human existence is built, including science. As an atheist, recognizing this truth was essential in my return to theism. I fought the conclusion very hard, as does every atheist I discuss it with, but in the end the principle of "truth above all, and at all costs" forced me to recognize it.

One of my favorite conversations with a Facebook atheist was over the historicity of Jesus. I was stunned when a critic responded to me that "Jesus and his disciples ... never existed." Even as an atheist it never occurred to me to deny that Jesus was an historical person. I questioned the mythology that I felt had grown about him, the supernatural stuff, but his historical existence seemed to me to be beyond serious question. My astonishment at the claim is evident in my responses. I hope that you find this exchange valuable.
BTW ... this particular critic was a decent guy. We ended on good terms, and I actually liked him as a human being. I haven't had any recent contact, but I wish him well, and he is in my prayers when God brings him to mind.
